Awards to help scientists
PA Wellington Five scientists, whose interests range from cut flowers to Angora goat breeding, have won travel grants in the Prince and Princess of Wales Science Awards. A scientist at the Levin Horticultural Centre, Mr C. G. Downs, has won a Goodman Group Award to visit research institutions in California and the Netherlands to look, at packaging and exporting of cut flowers. Dr J. G. Buwalda, of the Pukekohe Horticultural Research Station, has won a Shell New Zealand Award to visit agriculture and fruit tree research stations In Japan. An animal breeding scientist at the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre, Dr G. B. Nicoll, will use a Unilever New Zealand Award to visit the Texas Agricultural Experimental Station to discuss Angora goat breeding. A research officer at the Wellington Clinical School of Medicine, Dr R. P. Mclntosh, will study at the Institute of Animal Physiology in Britain and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in the United States. A scientist at the Water Quality Monitoring Group in Hamilton, Dr D. G. Smith, will visit water management agencies in Britain to examine Britain’s national water quality monitoring network.
