Unemployment and jobs offering
Sir, — Maybe your correspondent J. B. Stanton (January 29) would be interested to hear the unemployment story from the other side of the fence. I am an 18-year-old, bursary-qualified school leaver who has been unable to obtain a full-time job since the end of the school year, despite excellent testimonials and references. I am totally penniless, but I have not applied for the unemployment benefit for fear of abuse from my friends and the like of Mr Stanton. I have applied for many positions and would gratefully accept any of them; but, as yet, I have not received a single reply — not even an acknowledgement on receiving my application. Is it any wonder unemployed people become disheartened? Please give us a break — and a job. — Yours, etc., KERRY MCLOUGHLIN. January 29, 1986.
