Five rescued from island
Five people were rescued from a rock shelf on the Teddington side of Quail Island last evening after their boat got into difficulty on Lyttelton Harbour.
Two adults, two children and one teenager left their boat and took shelter on the island while a sixth person on the boat tried to fix the problem, said the Christchurch police. That person managed to get the boat going, but could not get the people from the island. The Lyt-
telton Signal Tower was informed at 9.30 p.m. that the people were on the island. The Lyttelton Harbour Board vessel Waitangi went to the rescue.
The people were not hurt and had not been in any immediate danger, the police said. A rock face rescue team had been standing by at Lyttelton but it was not needed. Information about who the people were or where they were from was not available.
