Canadian clean sweep

PA Wellington Canada reasserted its wrestling superiority over New Zealand by winning the second international, 7-0, at the Walter Nash Stadium in Wellington on Saturday. The Canadians, whose team includes several Olympic and world championship medallists, won the first test in Dunedin, 7-0, last week. The ' New Zealanders, generally showed good strength and aggression but found themselves short of experience. Chris Maddock, of Wellington, did well in the 62kg class against Mike Sullivan, leading, 2-0, after the first round, but the Canadian picked up the pace later to win, 8-3.

The other big bout was the 90kg clash between Steve Marshall and Wairarapa’s Grant Parker. When these two met in Dunedin, Parker pushed Marshall to an 8-4 decision, and on Saturday Parker was again holding his own, causing the Canadian some problems. Marshall, however, completed a spectacular throw in the second round, gaining four points and almost earning a fall. This throw enabled him to gain a 12-point margin and a win on superiority.

Two of the most impressive performances came from the Canadians, Chris Rinke and Clark Davis. Rinke, a bronze medallist at the Los Angeles Olympics, beat

Ivaano Rutten of Wellington, 7-1, and Davis, fourth in the Olympics, beat Wairarapa’s Robert Algie on superiority.

The third test will be held today at Te Awamutu and the fourth tomorrow evening at Manurewa. Results of the second test—

68kg: Pat Sullivan beat Grant Griffen (Wgtn) superiority, 12-0. 62kg: Mike Sullivan beat Chris Maddock (Wgtn), 8-3; Mitch Ostberg beat Grahame Hawkins (Wgtn) superiority, 12-0; Chris Rinke beat Ivaano Rutten (Wgtn), 7-1. 90kg: Steve Marshall beat Grant Parker (Wairarapa), superiority. 100 kg: Clark Davis beat Robert Algie (Wairarapa) superiority, 12-0. 68kg: Pat Sullivan beat Trent Scott (Taranaki), 12-2.
