Canty stages strong finish
Canterbury staged a strong finish to win the zone five elimination of the Rothmans inter-centre bowls tournament at Oamaru yesterday. Going into the last of the three rounds Canterbury had to win in all three sections to have a chance, and this it did, although the four only got home 16-15 in a dramatic last end against South Canterbury. Canterbury was well served by its singles player, Morgan Mfofat. He was the only entry to win all his three games. The pair, skipped by Ken Watson, had two wins and Coup’s four finished with just the one win. Canterbury will now contest the national finals, to be played in Christchurch early next month. The junior elimination was clearly won by North Otago. Canterbury took second ahead of South Canterbury on the points differential. The junior finals will be played in Wellington.
