Two superb tries
NZPA-Reuter Paris France ran in two superb tries in the final — seven minutes yesterday to overwhelm the champions Ireland 29-9 in their Five Nations Rugby Union championship match. Ireland restricted France to a 9-6 lead at half-time, but in the second half the heavier and stronger French pack took control and their classy. three-quar-ter line began to move
the ball with bewildering speed and panache. Scrumhalf Pierre Berhizier scored the first of France’s three tries seven minutes into the second half, but the home side had to wait until the seventy-third minute before they crossed the Irish • line again when prop Philippe Marocco barged over. France sealed their victory four minutes later when the backs ran the ball through the line
twice. The forwards took the movement on then freed the ball for centre Philippe Sella to score unopposed on the right flank. France’s other points came from three penalties and a conversion to flyhalf Guy Laporte, a penalty to fullback Serge Blanco and a dropped goal to winger Jean-Bap-tiste Lafond while centre Michael Kiernan kicked three penalties for the Irish.
