Navy men join Britannia
A Royal New Zealand Navy contingent has left to join the Royal Yacht Britannia for the forthcoming Royal tour of New Zealand. Eight men, all 'from the North Island, joined the yacht in Singapore yesterday during the vessel’s stopover en route to New Zealand. The contingent, under the command of Lieutenant Paul Gilkinson, of Wellington, will remain with the yacht until it sails from Lyttelton on March 2. They will do their normal duties as part of the Britannia’s complement. The yacht is due to arrive in Auckland on February 23 — five days behind schedule because of its recent evacuation of civilians from South Yemen.
