Big rise in power costs
PA Wellington Electricity generation costs almost trebled this week because of plant shutdowns for essential transmissions maintenance and construction work. The Ministry of Energy said the cost of fuel to generate electricity at thermal stations was $792,200, compared with $289,400 last week. The shutdown of Huntly Power Station until late this month while staff was on leave contributed to the extra costs, the Ministry said.
