India beats Aust. in cricket
NZPA-AAP Melbourne India beat Australia by six wickets in the World Series Cup match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last evening. Australia set India a target of 236 to win. The Australia middle-order batsmen wasted a great start given them by the openers, Geoff Marsh and David Boon. . The Australians scored only 99 runs from the last 20 overs, to total 235 for the loss of seven wickets. Marsh and Boon did their part by adding 146 in a superb opening stand which lasted until the thirty-third over, but the later batsmen lost their , way. Particularly disappointing was the captain, Allan Border, who could score only 18 from 32 balls when quick runs were required.
Boon and Marsh’s stand laid the foundation for a total approaching 300, but the lick of urgency from Border, and the fall of five.wickets in ithe last five overs, saw Australia struggle to reqch 235.
