Rape complaint triggers callout
The Christchurch police armed ffenders squad was called out and a block of Avonside Drive was sealed off late last evening after the police were told of a firearm incident. Just before 1 a.m. today a police spokesman said that the armed offenders squad call-out had been prompted by a rape complaint, although no formal complaint had been made.
The spokesman: . said that a house in Avonside; Drive had been searched; but nothing was found.:;’ ‘ • No-one had been arrested, he said' A block bounded by Fitzgerald Avenue, Armagh Street, Gilby Street, and Avonside Drive "was ' blocked off for about two hours. The police stopped; a number of cars contain-; ing' gang members.
