Tasman fares set to rise
NZPA-AAP Sydney Trans-Tasman air fares are expected to rise 8 per cent from April 1. If approved the rise will affect passengers buying tickets after March 1, for travel after April 1. The rise was recommended last year by the International Air Transport Association . along with a 5 per cent increase in fares to the south-west Pacific. An Air New Zealand spokesman confirmed yesterday that an application for the increase would be lodged by the airline with the New Zealand Government, He told AAP the airline expected the increase to go ahead. “The 8 per. cent increase has been recommended due to increased
costs,” he said. “There has not been an increase in Tasman fares for two years.” A spokesman for Qantas, which has to seek approval from both the Australian and New Zealand Governments, said talks were continuing.
