Day to remember

PA Oamaru Stuart Duff had a day to remember as Central Districts played themselves into a useful position against Otago in its Shell Trophy cricket match at Centennial Park, Oamaru yesterday. Central ended the second day with an overall lead of 156 runs with six wickets intact, and the prospects are for a fascinating finale today. Duff achieved careerbest bowling figures of six for 36 with his left-arm spinners, to help dismiss Otago for 303 and give Central a first innings lead of 41 runs.

Then Duff, who bats right-handed, made his maiden first-class halfcentury (51) after being promoted to No. 4 in the order. He came to the crease with Central struggling at 26 for two, and his sound,

mature innings was largely responsible for tentral reaching 115 for four by stumps. Otago continued its attacking policy yesterday but there were times when this was perhaps carried to extremes. Otago batted like millionaires on a spree for an innings of 303 in 270 minutes and 72.5 overs. The innings included 46 fours and sixes — an indication of the forthright approach of the batsmen.
