Inquiry by police into complaint
PA Auckland Police are to inquire into a formal complaint that the armed offenders squad burst in on a man’s barbecue, and left him with two black eyes and a broken nose. Mr Peter Chambers said his family and friends were having the backyard barbecue at his Universal Drive, Henderson home after an afternoon cricket game, when the alleged incident happened. A police inspector from Auckland Central will inquire into a formal com-
plaint, laid yesterday by Mr Chambers, with the head of the Western Police Division, Chief Inspector Ross Dallow. A police spokesman would not comment on the incident until the inquiry was completed, and Mr Chambers had been told of the result. Mr Chambers was charged with assault on police. He appeared in court yesterday, denied the charge, and was remanded on bail until April 23.
No guns were found in the house, nor was anybody being held hostage.
