Much cooler — for a change
Christchurch residents who last week longed for relief from the blistering heat got more than they bargained for yesterday. The temperature on Tuesday night dropped to 6.Bdeg at the airport and 7.2 deg in the city. These were below January’s average daily minimum temperatures of 12deg. at the airport and 11.6 deg in the city. Yesterday’s city temperature of 16deg. was a INyer of clothing (Sider than the 31 deg last
Wednesday. The cold snap was considerably warmer than the record low for January of ldeg. recorded in Christchurch in 1906. The Meteorological Office reported snow to the west and south of Christchurch last night as a cold front swept the South Island. Mount Hutt had 12cm and other falls were reported at Craigieburn Forest Pajk, Arthur’s Pass and bpke Tekapo.
