Churches focus on Royal visit

PA Auckland The National Council of Churches will decide whether it opposes the coming Royal visit — six days after the Queen arrives.

The council’s president, Mr Geoff Hill, whose group opposes Waitangi Day celebrations, said the Royal visit would be discussed at its February 28 to March 2 executive meetings in Wellington.

The Royal visit will be-

gin on February 22 and end, like the council meeting, on March 2.

"The tour has not been on the agenda up till now,” said Mr Hill. "It will be a bit late for us to be saying anthing of any substance.”

He said it was unlikely there would be protest action for this Royal visit but the meeting would forge the council’s future tour stance.
