Protest dismissed

PA Auckland A protest against the Whitbread maxi yact NZI Enterprise, lodged by a round-the-world-race rival, ÜBS Switzerland, was dismissed yesterdaymorning. The ÜBS skipper, Pierre Fehlman, lodged the protest relating to Enterprise’s new mast when the Whitbread fleet reached Auckland earlier this month. Fehlmann charged that the replacement mast

which Enterprise’s skipper, Digby Taylor, had fitted in Cape Town, after the original was bent during the first leg, should have resulted in the boat being remeasured for a new handicap rating. However, the race committee protest panel upheld the national rating authority in Cape Town’s decision that it had not been necessary to remeasure the boat as the replacement mast had been almost identical to its predecessor.
