New champs for swimmers
Swimmers in clubs outside the city area of Christchurch who find it difficult to keep pace with larger clubs within the city, now have their own championships. The first Canterbury country club championships will be held at the Burnham Military Camp pool on Saturday and entries for the events are encouraging according to the president of the Canterbury Swimming Centre, Mr Harry Osborne. There will be 177 competitors from nine clubs. To be eligible for the championships club pools
must be Bkm from the Centennial Pool. A team to represent Canterbury in the South Island country club championships at the Halswell Pool on March 1 will be chosen from the championships. Age groupings at the country competitions will be the -same as those at the Canterbury championships. The nine clubs represented at the championships will be Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika, Dudley Park, Rangiora, Halswell, Bumham and West Melton.
