Unemployment and jobs

Sir, —As a company person involved in staff hiring and training, I find it misleading to have high employment figures quoted in the papers after counting 403plus job vacancies in "The Press” last Saturday. Could we have the number of jobs available to save being brainwashed by depressing news of unemployment figures? After hearing last week of one person giving up work to go on the dole and the amount one gets, it would be safe to say the amount is far too much. Reduce the unemployment and sickness benefits, except in deserving cases, and these work-shy people will need to go out and find work and our tax bills will not be so high. — Yours, etc., J. B. STANTON. January 27, 1986.
