Meat workers’ wage claim

Sir, —Mr Blomfield and Mr Kennedy continue to make irresponsible statements while one of our major industries appears to be near total collapse. Mr Blomfield said that a wage rise of 15.5 per cent would be passed on as a rise in killing charges. It did not take the freezing companies long to take this up. In “The Press" of January 25 I read that they have reduced the schedule ami pelt price. I consider this a matant

rise in killing charges in disguise. Mr Kennedy says farmers are not involved. I can assure you the farmer is very much involved as the producer. These two men either have their thinking clouded or little to think with for not taking a more responsible and realistic attitude at this time. As a producer of this vital industry, I am most concerned. — Yours, etc., R. E. BLAIR. Ashburton, January 25, 1986.
