Man jailed for bank robbery

A man who robbed the Shades Arcade branch of Trusteebank Canterbury of $lO,OOO to pay gambling debts, has been jailed for three years and a half by Mr Justice Williamson in the High Court. Michael Moata Marino, aged 27, unemployed, who was represented by Mr P. H. B. Hall, had admitted a charge of robbing Jean Gough, a teller.

About 10 a.m. on December 23, Marino

handed the teller a withdrawal form on which was written: “I am armed. Give me all your money or else.”

His hand was in a bag, and he appeared to be holding something. Marino was given a bank bag and he ran off chased by a bank employee and three members of the public. They caught him in Hereford Street He had a breadknife which he had no intention of using.
