‘Bears’ win Superbowl

The Chicago Bears yesterday completed one of the most dominating National Football League (N.F.L.) seasons ever with the most dominating Superbowl.
The Bears crushed the New England Patriots, 4610, behind the clutch quarterbacking of Jim McMahon and an overpowering defence that turned the Patriots’ offence' into a retreat. McMahon scored on two short runs and com-
pleted .12 of 20 attempts for 256 yards (234 metres) before leaving the game in the third quarter with a sprained left wrist. And William “The Refrigerator” Perry, the 136 kg lineman, ran for a touchdown after being sacked in his first pro passing attempt. The score might point to an offensive game, but it was the defence, with seven sacks and a safety, that brought the Bears their first N.F.L. title since 1963.
