Otago maintains lead
Auckland joined Wellington in second place — 18 points behind Otago — when the fifth round of the Shell Trophy cricket competition was completed yesterday. Although beaten outright by Northern Districts at Tauranga, Auckland received four points for its first innings lead. Otago and Wellington gained two points each from their draw in Wellington.
Canterbury avoided outright defeat by Central Districts at Levin, and is still two points ahead of that rival on the bottom rungs of the ladder.
