Jews in the Soviet Union

Sir, —There would seem to be some confusion in Jurriaan Bendien’s mind between anti-Semi-tism and anti-Zionism (January 22). I most emphatically reject his confidently bland assertion of “the very real existence of institutional anti-Semitism in the U.S.S.R.” I should also seriously question his calling himself a socialist when he defends “the right of Zionists to voice their ideas freely" — in the U.S.S.R.? — a Right-wing philosophy so firmly rooted in capitalism? Does he believe that Marx, were he alive today, would - support Zionism? — Yours, etc.,

M. CREEL. January 22, 1986.
