Armit ‘yachtsman’
PA Auckland Leith Armit, of Auckland, is the yachtsman of the year the New Zealand Yachting Federation announced yesterday. Armit won the world OK dinghy championship sailed at Medemblik, the Netherlands, in July.
He also won the title in 1983.'
Armit, after graduating
from P class, showed his ability in the OK dingy in 1978 when he won the world junior title and was second over all in the senior championships. He is now gaining a reputation in keelboats. Last year Armit crewed on the New Zealand representative Canterbury in the Admiral’s Cup and then on Exador in the Southern Cross Cup series.
