Firm stops release of danger drugs

PA Auckland A world ban on two lifethreatening drugs has stopped their being distributed in New Zealand, says the local spokesman for the West German company Hoechst The anti-depressant drugs had been withdrawn after some patients suffered damage to red blood cells.

The spokesman, Mr Terry Stanbridge, said Hoechst was cancelling plans to release one of the drugs, Alival, in New Zealand this year. It was also withdrawing an application with the Health Department to sell the other, Psyton. Mr Stanbridge said neither drug had been stocked in New Zealand.
