Tamati Wgtn’s player-coach
The former Kiwi hooker, Howie Tamati, has been appointed as the Wellington representative rugby league coach and director of coaching for the coming season. Tamati toured Australia, Britain and France with the Kiwis last year, and was the player-coach for Central Districts last season. However, he will be concentrating on coaching Wellington. “I’m pretty excited about it,” he said. "Last season with Central Districts wasn’t too good, but I was player-coach there, and I found it pretty difficult at thaj’level to concentrate on
my job and the players’ Jobs at the same time." Tamati is also looking forward to his involvement with coaching at college and intermediate level." He has been on the national coaching council and with his fellow Kiwis, Clayton Friend and Owen Wright; assisted the national, coach, Mr Graham Lowe, In visits, to schools around the country. Depending on the future success Of the Kiwis, Tamati expects the growth In Interest in league to continue at school level. < 7 “The momentum is there, and it depends on what we do for young jHKiple, .that will keeylt going" hesaid." -
