Race ‘could be anybody’s’
PA Wellington It could be anybody’s race, the English driver, Andy Rouse, said of the Nissan Mobil 500 event on Wellington’s waterfront tomorrow. That was the way it looked as the last teams arrived in Wellington yesterday after weeks of
work and testing around New Zealand and in Australia. Any one of five makes of car could be first across the line after 500 km and five hours of racing between the primary BMW, Ford, Holden, Rover and Volvo cars. The three tipped as
potential winners are the -Rover Vitesse of the Scotsman, Tom Walkinshaw and the Englishman, Win Percy; the Volvo of the Swede, Thomas Lindstrom (current European touring car champion) and the Aucklander, Robbie Francevic (co-driver of last year’s
winning 'car) Rut there are other fast drivers in similar cars, strong contenders in Fords and BMWs. Andy Rouse is one. He will drive his British saloon car championshipwinning Ford Sierra XR4Ti with the Aucklandej, David Oxton.
