Proposals may be submitted for projects which require New Zealand-based scientists, technologists or science technicians to travel overseas to develop their expertise, to use facilities not available in New Zealand, or to promote New Zealand science. A small number of grants may be awarded for projects to be carried out in New Zealand by either New Zealand personnel or by visiting scientists. Proposals for the latter should originate in this country. Successful applicants will be engaged in top quality science and will be asked to define the possible role of their proposals in the development of New Zealand. A proportion of the grants will be designated for the encouragement of New Zealand-United Kingdom co-operation. It is intended that support will be provided for visits or projects not exceeding two months in length; limitations on funding will make awards of normal post-doctoral fellowships or research studentships unlikely, and grants will not be made primarily for attendance at conferences. The closing date for applications is February 28, 1986. Application forms and further details are. available from the Executive Officer, Royal Society of New Zealand, Private Bag, Wellington. >
