University Vacancies THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY (POST 86/5) APPLICATIONS are invited for the above post Applicants should have a proven record of teaching, research and administrative experience in Biology. Experience of tertiary level education in a developing country would be an advantage. The Head of Biology has over-all responsibility for the Biology Department and its academic staff, and for the Biology component of teaching programmes at pre-degree, degree and postgraduate levels, including extension courses within the region. The appointee may also be Involved In consultancy, research and development projects for associated University Institutes. The successful applicant will be expected to take up the position In November 1986 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be In accordance with qualifications and experience In the Professorial range: F 530,383 - 32,438. The University currently receives aid funds to pay additions to salary as an Inducement to staff from Australia and New Zealand, who are appointed to posts designated for this purpose. This post ahs been designated for payment of Inducement allowance, details of which are available from the Registrar. In addition, the University provides gratuity amounting to 15 per cent of basic salary, appointment allowance and subject to the University’s current housing policy, partly furnished accommodatln at a rental of 12W per cent of salary. The University will contribute a sum equivalent to 10 per cent of the appointee’s salary towards superannuation obligations. Appointment will be for a contract period of three years and may be renewable by mutual agreement. The successful applicant will Join a research group working on the mechanism of Insulin action and the structure and function of fetal insulin-related hormones. Candidates should hold a doctorate In biochemistry or a related discipline but applicants with other degrees will be considered. Preference will be given to an applicant with experience in DNA cloning and related techniques, or protein chemistry. The appointment Is for a maximum term of three years.
