University Vacancies UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO DUNEDIN POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN EXPERIMENTAL ORAL BIOLOGY APPLICATIONS are Invited for appointment to a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Experimental Oral Biology Unit in the Faculty of Dentistry. The Experimental Oral Biology Unit has funding from the Wellcome Trust, London, for two Postdoctoral Fellows for three years. The funding Is for work on the composition, architecture and metabolism of the cell wall from the human pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. The successful applicant will be expected to extend the group’s work on 81-3 and 81-6 glucan synthesis during the yeast to mycelial morphogenesis. The biochemistry of germ-tube formation will be studied with mutants affected In the metabolism of N-acetylglucosamlne. The cell wall architecture will be examined by radioactive labelling of surface components followed by selective extraction and separation of these components by electrophoresis and HPLC. In addition, cloning procedures are being developed to express Candida genes in other organisms and applicants with an interest in this area are encouraged to apply. Salary: $28,000 per annum.
