Obituary Mr Charles McParland

PA Wellington One of the instigators of the- photo-finish machines at racecourses in New Zealand, Mr Charles McParland, died in Wellington on Sunday, January 19, aged 87. Mr McParland was well known in both the racing and hotel industries. He was a life member of the Wellington Trotting Club and Wellington Racing Club and owned some fine horses, including Pierre which raced successfully in the 19505. Mr McParland was on the first board of directors at the trotting club at Hutt Park, where the first New Zealand trial of photo-finish machines took place. He was a regular buyer at the Trentham yearling sales.
