Slow progress on INL share bid

PA Wellington Independent Newspapers, Ltd, directors were pleased there was now recognition that the company’s shares had been undervalued by the stockmarket, the INL chairman, Mr J. A. Burnet, said yesterday. He told the Stock Exchange that, since the INL

half yearly profit announcement was made in November, the company . had continued to trade well, with advertising ' volumes at high levels, - notwithstanding the down-. ’ turn in some sections of the economy. X While the present offerprice for INL shares was/ obviously more attractive-, than previous market”' prices, the directors be-' lieved shareholders’ in-/ terests would be best ' served by retaining their shares, and recommended accordingly. On Thursday Wellington/ brokers, Jarden and Com- 1 pany, sought 1.5 M INL / shares at 400 c a share but - progress was slow, with/ only 12,000 shares sold. The price was soon overbid by other brokers and INL closed for the day at 410 c, with 47,500 selling at that price, up 30c on the day.
