Britannia ‘will arrive’
NZPA staff correspondent London The rescue mission of the Royal Yacht Britannia in war-torn South Yemen will not disrupt next month’s Royal visit to New Zealand, Buckingham Palace said yesterday. The ship has taken part in what is believed to be its last mission. “A few hundred”
people were evacuated in its third visit, the British Press Association reports. The “Sun” newspaper had earlier said the ship, which was due to leave England this week, would remain in the Gulf of Aden to assist rescues. It said that the yacht would not reach New Zealand in time and the Queen would have to stay
ashore. The Palace press office said yesterday, however, that there had been no change in the Royal itinerary. If the ship left for New Zealand this week it would still arrive in time to meet the Royal couple. They are scheduled to join the Britannia within an hour of flying from Nepal on February 22.
