Both sides first met in conciliation in early December, ; .but talks broke down and workers imposed bans and worktajule slowdowns.
They returned to negotiations on January 14, but talks broke down almost immediately and the union had a 48-hour wildcat strike, The Hotel Workers’ Union secretary, Mr Rick Barker, said catering workers were seeking about 3 per cent more pay on top of the award rise and also were concerned about “excessive" num- , bers of casuals employed.
