Returns of S.C. papers may drop
PA Wellington The Education Department expects fewer requests for School Certificate examination papers to be returned this year. Ljast year, 19,384 students wanted their papers back — almost a third of all New Zealand candidates and more than double the 1983 figure. About 70,000 scripts were returned, costing the department about $77,000. But the department’s director of administration, Mr Mark Canning, said only about 30 people inquired back to the depart-
ment last year, suggesting a fall in numbers this year. Mr Canning said last year had the greatest interest where reclaiming scripts was concerned, and there was some novelty value to it as well. The returning of scripts, first allowed in 1984 after a decision by the then Chief Ombudsman, is proceeded by requests for recounts, which must reach the department by February 15. The deadline for requests for returned scripts is February 28
