Amloch works attractively
Special correspondent Wellington
The Matamata-trained stayer, Amloch, was the star of the training at Otaki yesterday. In her lead-up trial for the Evening Post Wellington Cup, Amloch (Grant Cooksley) moved away from near the 2000 m about three metres out on the course proper, then ran 1600 m in Imin 40.85, finishing with 600 in 375. Azapal and Stylish Dude, cup rivals for Amloch, also started near the
2000 m, and quickened for the last 1400 in Imin 27.65, the 1000 in Imin 1.55, and the 600 in 38.45.
Greatness started on his 800 under restraint, but spurted from the 600, and completed that distance in an impressive 36.65. Prince Royale sprinted 1000 m in Imin I.Bs, the final 600 in 36.75. Silver Samurai equalled that time for the 1000 m, but took 38.3 s for the final 600. Mighty Vain recorded Imin 30.3 s for 1400, and 36.6 s for the final 600.
