Award to Rotorua reporter

PA Rotorua A Rotorua journalist, Andrea Dennis, has been awarded a $5OOO journalism scholarship. The Robert Bell travelling scholarship in journalism is awarded by the University of Canterbury to one recipient each year. Miss Dennis, aged 27, who will leave for Britain on February 18 on a travelling holiday, will complete a research project on community newspapers in Birmingham, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Edinburgh. Miss Dennis gained a Diploma of Journalism at the University of Canterbury in 1981. She was employed on the “Kapiti Observer” newspaper, Paraparaumu, until May, 1984, when she joined the “Rotorua Daily Post” as District Council, police and forestry reporter.
