Piano for Milford lodge

PA Invercargill Glade House, on the Milford track, has resounded again to the tones of a new Bernstein piano. 1 The piano was taken by . truck to the 42 km mark on the Milford road this ~ week and lifted by helicopter to the Tourist Hotel Corporation’s lodge at the start of the track.

Playing the piano has become something of s tradition for Phil and Betty Turnbull who have managed the Glade House lodge for the last 16 years. The Turnbulls welcome track walkers to Glade House with a sing-along featuring songs such as “It’s A Long Way To Pompalona.” They were delighted with the sound of the new piano which replaces an old one, thought to have been at Glade House since the 19405. Each of the three T.H.C. lodges on the track has a piano and it is intended to replace the piano at Quinton Lodge near Milford Sound soon.
