The west side
“West Side Story,” the modern version of the classic Romeo and Juliet story, is the Christchurch Operatic Society’s next show opening on July 15. The show has been directed and choregraphed by Robert Young. The musicial director is Gerald Oliver. Based in the streets of New York “West Side Story” is the tale of Maria
and Tony, who belong to different ethnic groups. The show is at present being staged in Sydney, where it has played to sellout houses. The Christchurch Society’s production will run until July 30. The lead roles will be taken by Peter Hewson and Angela Johnson, Philip Rowe (Riff) and Nicholas Mcßride (Bernardo).
