Nelson pots
More than 100 pots made by the Nelson potter, George Morgan, will be on display in the Christchurch Town Hall foyer until Saturday. It is the first time Mr Morgan has exhibited his work in Christchurch, although he has been a potter for 10 years and has had exhibitions in Nelson and in Auckland.
Mr Morgan says the theme of the exhibition is ancient pottery. He has
drawn from the ideas used in early Chinese and Japanese pottery, but especially the very early work of North American Indian potters. The exhibition was opened on Monday evening by the Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay. Mr Morgan says the date of the opening, July 4, is particularly significant because it was American Independence Day.
