Burton weds wife No. 5
NZPA London The actor, Richard Burton, has married for the fifth time, the 8.8. C. reported yesterday. It said that Burton, aged 57, two of whose previous marriages were to the actress, Elizabeth Taylor, married Sally Hay in New York. It said that Miss Hay is a former 8.8. C. television production assistant. The 8.8. C. did not say what the report was based on. The couple reportedly met in Vienna early last year when Burton was working on the movie “Wagner.” His wife-to-be was working as a continuity script .woman on the set.
Burton has been starring opposite Miss Taylor in a Broadway production of the Noel Coward classic “Private Lives” for nearly two months. But the 8.8. C. said that off-stage Miss Hay had been his constant companion. Staff at the Broadway theatre were also reported to be surprised at the news, said the 8.8. C. They have not seen Burton for several days as the show has been temporarily closed because Miss Taylor has a throat infection. Burton’s last marriage, to a model, Susan Hunt, former wife of the British racing driver, James Hunt, ended after six years in 1982.
