Rubbish workers strike
Christchurch City Council labourers and drivers who collect the city’s rubbish went on < strike for the second consecutive day yesterday over a payment dispute.
They will meet again at 7.15 a.m. today to decide whether to return to work.
Talks were held yesterday between union officials representing the workers and council staff in a bid to resolve the dispute. The Bexley rubbish dump was also closed yesterday because of the dispute. The council has advised householders to take in rubbish bags left out yesterday and put them out again with next week’s rubbish.
