‘Roadshow’ nears last performance

Christchurch has had the best response to the road safety show, “Roadshow,” of the four main centres.

The show’s writer, composer, and director, Mr John Densem, said last evening that after the final performance tomorrow morning, 40,000 Christchurch people would have seen the show. He said the booking office had been flooded with calls yesterday from people wanting to book for the final public performance last evening, but the season was sold out.

Although the first-night bookings had been low, the “word got around” and the five public performances were sold out fast.

Although last evening was the final public performance, there will be more shows for schools today, and

tomorrow morning, as well as a private show this evening.

“We would have liked to put on more performances, but the theatre -was booked,” said Mr Densem. Mr Densem said that there was a good chance of getting the show together again.

“Perhaps it will come back again in two or three years time, but there is a lot of thinking to do — whether we have the energy, the money, and if it would be done the same way. ' “The response has been so good that it would be a shame if we did not do it again.” About 16,000 Christchurch schoolchildren had seen the show and in all, 250,000 New Zealanders had seen it.
