Shirley’s fine chess win
Shirley Boys’ High School, led by last year’s Canterbury schoolpupils’ champion, Brett Cameron, showed its over-all depth with a 5-1 victory against the capable Burnside team in the second round of “The Press” chess competition.
Christ’s College A and St Andrew’s A opened their winning accounts in the A grade, and Christchurch Boys’ B and Riccarton kept unbeaten records in zone one and zone two, respectively, in the B grade. Second-round results — A grade.—Christ’s College A 4%, Cashmere A 1%; Shirley B.H.S. A 5, Burnside A 1; St Andrew’s A 3%, St Bede’s A 2%; Christchurch B.H.S A 4%, Mairehau 1%.
