Waikato Cup now worth $51,500
PA Hamilton The Waikato Cup, a long established feature of the Waikato Racing Club’s November meeting, will be the richest race ever staged by the club, worth $51,500. The president of the Waikato Racing Club, Mr Roy Robinson, said generous sponsorship from the “Waikato Times,” also an increased stakes subsidy from the New Zealand Racing Authority, had increased the value of the race by $15,500. The race will in future be known as the “Waikato Times” Gold Cup, Mr Robinson said. In addition to the stake, there will be a gold cup valued at $7OOO for the winning owner. “The ‘Waikato Times’ Gold Cup will be the richest race ever staged by the Waikato Racing Club and it is the first time the Waikato Cup has been sponsored,” Mr Robinson said.
