Bath’s injury blow to team
A “first-rate performance” by Woolston W.M.C. in its Adidas Chatham Cup defeat in Dunedin last Sunday was marred by a serious injury to Wayne Bath. The stocky midfielder, who was playing as a right back in the match, Bath suffered a badly split shin five minutes before the end of the match against Dunedin City. Not only did it require 15 stitches, but it was later discovered that a vein had burst and Bath is expected to be in hospital in Dunedin for the next fort-
night. Bath’s injury came as he challenged for what Woolston’s player-coach, Trevor Reece, called a “50-50” ball. “It’s a big blow for us,” said Reece. “We gave a good all round performance, had a couple of chances and perhaps did not get as much as we deserved.”
Woolston lost, 3-0, but while the result was disappointing, it leaves the team free to challnge for the Hertz League title, without other, less important, distractions.
