Hereford Genepool sales clearance
Hereford bulls had a total clearance at two Genepool sales in the South Island recently. Fifty-one bulls were sold at the eighth annual Genepool sale at Temuka at an average price of $1835 compared with last year’s average of $l5BB. The top price was $9OOO for a three-year-old bull sold by Tarrington Farm (Gore) and bought by the Gore Genepool minigroup. Thirty-one bulls were sold at a Genepool regional sale at Mossburn, the first
auction of Genepool bulls outside the central herd. The bulls averaged $1377, the top price being $3750. Buyers at the Temuka sale came from throughout the South Island including some from the North Island. Buying power at the Southland sale was mostly restricted to South Otago and Southland farmers although several bulls went to Kaikoura. Genepool is a South Island performance-record-ing group, with about 50 contributing herds from Marlborough to Southland.
