Warning about liquor licences
Sports clubs with liquor licences run the risk of having the licence cancelled if they breach the Sale of Liquor Act, the Licensing Control Commission has warned.
In granting licences to four North Canterbury clubs, the commission expressed concern that some clubs might not be aware of their obligations as licenceholders.
In particular, the commission pointed to the requirement that people should not go to the clubs mainly to drink liquor. It also drew attention to the law on the presence of minors on licensed premises. It said that clubs which failed to follow the law could have their hours cut or the liquor licence cancelled.
The commission granted the following licences:
Cheviot Golf Club: Monday to Friday, 12 p.m. to
6.30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Rangiora Golf Club: Monday to Friday, 12 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 p.m. Sundays and public holidays, 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Rangiora Bowling Club, October 1 to April 30: Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 1 to September 30: Every day, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, 8 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. Scargill Golf Club: Monday to Friday, 12 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
The commission also extended the liquor licence of the Technical Cricket Club, Christchurch, to cover the winter months. The club had sought the extension because it has increased its facilities to cater for indoor cricket.
