NZPA-Reuter Bonn The weight of the European Community’s surplus butter — the so-called butter mountain — now matches that of the entire population of Denmark, according to a senior West German official. The State secretary of the Finance Ministry, Mr Hans Tietmeyer, said in a speech on economic policy that the Community’s stockpile of powdered milk was, furthermore, equivalent in weight to all the inhabitants of Belgium. Denmark has a population of five million and Belgium almost 10 million. What was worse was that these farm product surpluses were growing daily, Mr Tietmeyer said.
