Arrests after burglary

The curiosity of a passerby and swift action by the police resulted in the arrests of nine people on charges of burglary and receiving in Christchurch on Saturday evening. The passer-by informed the police of strange activities at Dowson’s Shoe Store, 335 b Riccarton Road, about 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. A patrol car arrived soon after and two men were apprehended on the premises. Subsequent inquiries by the police resulted in another seven people being arrested. The group will appear in the District Court today. All 65 pairs of running shoes and dress boots which were taken from the shop were recovered by the police. ,
